Data Statistics

As of 18 March 2020, 919 indicators are published in the ESPON 2020 Database.

The average completeness figures (see Data and Metadata Upload System for more information about completeness calculations) are the following:

  • 72% of the indicators have a completeness greater than 90%,
  • 3% of the indicators have a completeness less than 50% (two-third of them are Class indicators).



Nature types indicator are two third stocks and 20% ratio. The two most represented thematic are 'Envrionment and Energy' and Economy, finance and trade'.

Of course, as macro-region and TCA were recently added in the system, EU28+4+CC, EU28 and EU28+4 are the most used spatial extensions.


The following graphic gives information about the number of indicator using a particular nomenclature (including level and version). Today NUTS level2 of version 2013

are the most used. Except NUTS, only Cities and FUA are used.


The following pie shows the data type repartition for standard indicator values stored in database.


We can see that 53% of projects were approved today, and 81% of datasets received the quality checked status.
