The typology is based on indicators depicting Innovativeness in SMEs and Employment in Circular Economy technology providers. Employment in circular economy technology providers is based on the ESPON CIRCTER Project while innovativeness in SMEs is taken out of the Regional Innovation Scoreboard. The typology assigns each NUTS 2 region into one of nine groups on a bivariate scale from 1-3 for each indicator. The scale is calculated based on 1/3 quantiles for each indicator. The typology being used for mapping in the first place, and thus to allow for a differentiated view, values in terms of <0.1 quantile and >0.9 quantile are limited to the respective class boundary.
