The indicator displays the knowledge output of a given region, benchmarked along ESPON space, as data availability allows. Innovation in the framework of the indicator is restricted to technical innovation via patent and trademark registration, thus not necessarily reflecting the status of social innovations. The composite indicator quantifies the innovation outputs undertaken fora given NUTS-3 region.
The synthetic indicator is composed of several sub-indicators which are individually picking up characteristics of the overall territorial dimensions in the framework innovative economic activities.
