The typology is based on indicators depicting difficulties in accessing financing for circular economy activities in SMEs and employment in circular economy enterprises. Difficulties in accessing financing are based on the flash Eurobarometer 441 while employment in circular economy enterprises is provided by the ESPON CIRCTER Project. The typology assigns each NUTS 2 region into one of nine groups on a bivariate scale from 1-3 for each indicator. The scale is calculated based on 1/3 quantiles for each indicator. The typology being used for mapping in the first place, and thus to allow for a differentiated view, values in terms of <0.1 quantile and >0.9 quantile are limited to the respective class boundary.
