Indicator: Territorial coping capacity to natural hazards

Composite indicator obtained with multivariate statistical techniques. Source indicators are: natural population change; migration rate; tertiary educational attainment; R&D expenditure; R&D personnel and researchers; patent applications to the EPO; social capital; risk perception; hospital beds; practising physicians; GDP per inhabitant; professional, scientific and technical employments; spatial distribution of green infrastructure; potential green infrastructure network for Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction policies; gender equality index; quality of government index; municipalities signatories to the Covenant of Majors.
The indicators are analysed using PCA, obtaining 14 factors.
The indicators' weighting is performed using the factor loadings table after varimax rotation. The square factor loadings are calculated; then these values are divided by the proportion of variance explained by each factor; subsequently intra-factor weighted loads are divided by the proportion of variance explained by each factor in relation to the total cumulative variance; then, the weight of the indicators is computed based on the factor loadings across all factors; finally the geometric aggregation of the indicators is calculated.
