Indicator: Territorial susceptibility to natural hazards

Composite indicator obtained with multivariate statistical techniques. Source indicators are: age of population; young-age dependency; old dependency; early leavers from education and training; risk of poverty and social exclusion; primary sector employments; unemployment rate; irrigable and irrigated areas.
The indicators are analysed using principle component analysis (PCA) and the first 6 factors are kept.
To obtain the indicators' weighting, firstly the square of the factor loadings is calculated after varimax rotation; the indicators with highest factor loadings are grouped into intermediate composite indicators; then those intermediate indicators are aggregated based on the proportion of variance explained; subsequently, the weights are computed according to the factor loadings across all factors; finally, the susceptibility is obtained using the geometric aggregation of the indicators with the obtained weights.
These are the sources and the preliminary processing of the eight source indicators:
Age of population: MEDAGEPOP indicator from the Eurostat demo_r_pjanind3 dataset; The data has been retrieved at NUTS3 level and scaled between 1 and 2.
Young-age dependency: YOUNGDEP1 indicator from the Eurostat demo_r_pjanind3 dataset; The data has been retrieved at NUTS3 level and scaled between 1 and 2.
Old-age dependency: YOUNGDEP1 indicator from the Eurostat demo_r_pjanind3 dataset; The data has been retrieved at NUTS3 level and scaled between 1 and 2.
Early leavers from education and training: Eurostat edat_lfse_16 dataset; The data has been retrieved at NUTS2 level, missing values are firstly filled with NUTS0 level data, if any value is still missing it is filled with median value, and it is finally scaled between 1 and 2.
Risk of poverty and social exclusion: Eurostat tgs00107 dataset; The data has been retrieved at NUTS2 level, missing values are firstly filled with NUTS0 level data, if any value is still missing it is filled with median value, and it is finally scaled between 1 and 2.
Primary sector employments: Eurostat nama_10r_3empers dataset; The data has been retrieved at NUTS3 level, missing values are firstly filled with NUTS0 level data, if any value is still missing it is filled with median value, and it is finally scaled between 1 and 2.
Unemployment rate: Eurostat lfst_r_lfu3rt dataset; The data has been retrieved at NUTS2 level, if any value is missing it is filled with median value, and it is finally scaled between 1 and 2.
Irrigable and irrigated areas: Eurostat tai03 dataset; The data has been retrieved at NUTS2 level, missing values are firstly filled with NUTS0 level data, if any value is still missing it is filled with median value, and it is finally scaled between 1 and 2.
