Methodology

The indicator is expressed as a weighted average of (1) the accumulated patents in selected environmental technologies per million inhabitants at NUTS 2 level (2005-2010) from OECD Regions and cities database; (2) Share of patents in selected environmental technologies over the total number of patents (2005-2010), from OECD Regions and cities database; (3) Number of greentech clusters per million inhabitants (2013) generated in the GREECO project relying on data from the Cluster Observatory (http://www.clusterobservatory.eu). Weights have been assigned as follows: Variable 1 accounts for 50% of the TECH. Variables 2 and 3 account for 25% each.TECH values have been normalised from 0,5 to 1,5 for representation purposes
