Abstract
The project ENSURE: European Sustainable Urbanisation through port city Regeneration, is a targeted analysis carried out as part of the ESPON 2020 Programme under Specific Objective 2 “Upgraded knowledge transfer and use of analytical user support”, which encourages the reinforcement of national and regional territorial development policies, through the production, dissemination and promotion of territorial evidence.
The project involves ESPON EGTC, the four stakeholder cities of Cork as lead city (IE), and 3 partner cities of Aalborg (DK), Brest (FR), and Catania (IT) , and a group of consultants and researchers from Ramboll (BE, DK), University College Dublin (IE) and University of Catania (IT).
The objectives of the project are (1) to provide insights to policy makers on the potential regional impact of port city regeneration as drivers of European sustainable urbanisation,
growth and resilience; and (2) to provide municipalities with a better understanding of the frameworks, methods, tools and instruments which can enable, inspire and facilitate the
implementation of sustainable port city regeneration.
