Indicator: Municipal waste indicators, other data

Type: Project Other Data - June 17, 2019, 12:59 p.m.

This dataset provides information on the amounts of municipal waste generated and treated at NUTS-2 level, for 2006 and 2013. Municipal waste consists of waste collected by or on behalf of municipal authorities and disposed of through waste management systems. It mainly includes waste generated by households, although it also includes similar waste from sources such as shops, offices and public institutions. Municipal waste is classified according to the different disposal and recovery operations listed in the Waste Framework Directive (2008/98/EC, Annexes 2 and 3). Treatment options are: (1) landfill; (2) incineration with (2a) and without (2b) energy recovery, and (3) recycling & composting. The dataset isdirectly available from Eurostat (env_rwas_gen). Data are collected as part of a pilot project by means of an environmental questionnaire distributed among Member States. Basing on the absolute figures available from EUROSTAT, the CIRCTER project has derived different indicators including per capita values, change rates tracking temporal evolution between 2006 and 2013, and shares of treatment typologies in relation to total municipal waste.
