The composition of the local economy gives a first insight in the potential for cluster development. In order to make this practical on a European scale, an urban-maritime eco-cluster context typology has been developed to depict the readiness for the development of innovative clusters in the EU’s coastal regions. It portrays four different pillars that display to what extent the right territorial and economic circumstances are in place for cluster development in urban-maritime regions.
