In February 2022 Russia invaded Ukraine. Most of the OECD countries reacted with unprecedented economic sanctions against Russia and Belarus, both in the sphere of trade and financial flows. In parallel, millions of Ukrainian flocked from the country creating a new migration challenge for the EU. The purpose of this Scenario is to analyse the economic impact of this dramatic event, focusing on the effects on the international trade and migration flows.
This quantitative Scenario simulates the effects the war in Ukraine might have in the ESPON regions in terms of flows of refugees from Ukraine, Belarus and Russia.
