Indicator: Air freight regional typologies

The cluster analysis for air freight transport utilised also the seven indicators. The lower number of regions for air transport compared to land transport modes led to a predetermined number of three clusters only, described as follows:
Cluster A "Air freight linked regions" covers regions that are part of the European air freight network, but play a minor role in there. They have a rather low connectivity, low absolute and relative intensities and thus low importance in the intraregional balance and a high network selectivity, i.e. are strongly depending on air cargo exports to a single destination.
Cluster B "Air freight integrated regions" contains regions with a fairly good connectivity and a low network selectivity, while having only moderate air cargo intensities.
Cluster C "Major air freight hub regions" includes those regions that dominate air cargo transport in Europe. Those regions have high connectivity, high absolute and relative intensities and they are dominating the intraregional balance. Network selectivity is low, but not as low as in Cluster B.
