Green infrastructure (GI) is mapped as a network of contiguous patches of natural and semi-natural areas outside Functional Urban Areas that connect two or more Natura 2000 and/or Emerald Network protected sites. The identification of GI elements is based on the actual land use and cover, and not in terms of identifying spatial areas already bound by policy measures and secured by their obligations. Natural and semi-natural areas are based on the CORINE land cover (CLC) map of 2012 and exclude all Artificial Surfaces, Arable land and Permanent crops that are not classified as High Nature value (HNV) farmland. Other Artificial Surfaces, such as those covered by the Imperviousness HRL layer, isolated patches of natural and semi-natural areas not connecting protected sites, and patches of natural and semi-natural areas smaller than 25ha or with a minimum mapping width less than 100m, are not included in the potential GI network.
The raster dataset is binary; it has 1ha spatial resolution and two classes: “1”=GI; “0”=Non-GI.
